Steve Nelson, Assistant Vice President of Lake City Medical Center, was presented a Patriot Award on October 18, 2019, by Tim Lambert, DoD-ESGR Area Chair, in recognition of his extraordinary support of U.S. Army Reserve Captain John David Spring.

  • “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered the Nation’s call to serve,” said Tim Lambert, Florida Area 5 Chair. “Mr. Nelson was nominated for being highly supportive of Captain Spring. Supportive managers and supervisors are absolutely critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the Nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”
  • Captain Spring said, “Steve Nelson elicits the best in character when it applies to supporting the Military, not just within the community and within the hospital organization, but from a personal level he has been extremely supportive of my service to our Country. As an example, I was notified with very short notice of my mobilization. Steve did not hesitate to ensure that I was provided any time I needed to prepare for mobilization. Please keep in mind that Steve is the Assistant Vice President of Lake City Medical Center and he is responsible for the care and safety of hundreds of patients every day, yet he took the time to ensure I could prepare and be with my family before I left for Germany. Although my duties and responsibilities as the Laboratory Director is critical to the care of the patients in the hospital, he made sure that I was okay and told me that all would be handled for me at the hospital and not to worry. This alone shows Steve has high regard for those that serve the Nation in the military. I respect Steve Nelson in the utmost as a gentleman, a friend, and a Patriot.”
